NEET SCAM: Justice awaits

Biggest scam of Indian History!! Playing with student's life... is it a game?

The pressure to excel and perform well in competitive exams is a major source of stress for students today. With the intense increase in competition, it has become essential to excel in exams and secure good marks. NEET is one such exam that students aspire to crack, as it represents a significant step towards their academic goals.

What was the scam this year? If 67 students secure full marks, it means they performed well. Why does the NTA face controversies and criticism? Let’s delve into past results to gain a clearer understanding.

  1. Result scrutiny

The NTA released a merit list showing 67 contestants who achieved the top score. Eight of the flawless scorers were from a single exam center in Jhajjar, Haryana. When 10,000 candidates disputed their answer sheets, the NTA awarded grace marks to those who had followed the textbook, benefiting 44 top applicants.

2. Grace Marks

The problem students encountered was related to timing. Question papers were distributed late, but the allocated exam time remained the same. As a result, students received additional marks based on the delay. They estimated that had they received the full allocated time, they would have scored 40 marks in 10 minutes. Consequently, they were awarded grace marks in proportion to the time delay they experienced.

3. Paper Leak

On the day of the NEET UG exam, May 5, 2024, multiple social media posts claimed that the exam questions had been leaked beforehand. Despite NTA’s denial of these claims, a public notice was issued stating that some students had left the testing center against the invigilators’ efforts to stop them.

There have been reports that buyers at Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan Mehta Vidyalaya in Sawai Madhopur (Rajasthan) charged sums for the examination papers that ranged from 20 to 25 lakhs Indian Rupees, or roughly 25,000–30,000 USD.

NEET is the most important exam for students aspiring to become doctors. The stakes are high, as a year can make a big difference. The NTA needs to address this issue and ensure fairness for all students.
