Many wars broke down between Israel and Gaza, Israel and Palestine, and many more. But why is Israel fighting wars? It is because it wants to clear Hamas hideouts seeking shelter in these places.

It has been months since Israel is fighting wars with Gaza. Due to its intense rivalry and attacks, more than 14 lakh people started escaping to the southern side in search of shelter. And with this, people began taking refuge in Rafah.

Just when Israel decided to attack Rafah, in which many civilians’ lives came in danger, the slogan “All Eyes on Rafah” took a major outlook all over the world, mainly, in Western Europe, Australia and India.

The slogan appears to have originated from a comment made by Rick Peeperkorn, director of the World Health Organization’s Office of the Occupied Palestinian Territories, who said “All eyes on Rafah” in February, days after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the creation of an evacuation plan for the city ahead of planned attacks to eliminate what Netanyahu claims are Hamas’ last remaining strongholds.

The phrase was a request not to ignore the sufferings of the refugees who fled Gaza in search of life.

But what happened exactly? Was it a rash decision or just an outburst by Israel?

6 days ago, out of nowhere, Hamas attacked with rockets on Israel. Later on Sunday, sirens could be heard in several southern border communities that are close to Gaza, some of which have seen their people return since the Hamas raid on October 7.

About three weeks ago, Israel launched an operation in southern Gaza City, promising to destroy what it claimed to be the remaining Hamas battalions present, despite strong international alarm.

On Sunday, Israel attacked targeting a Hamas compound and it ended up killing dozens of people in Rafah, including civilians. Another 21 people were reportedly killed after an airstrike in west Rafah.

Israeli officials declared in February that Rafah was the only area of Gaza where Hamas still had a significant presence and that they intended to continue their operations there.

Following months of intermittent talks between the two parties, representatives from Israel and Hamas convened in Egypt for cease-fire negotiations in the hopes that the conflict would be resolved by the mediators.
Prior to the Rafah attack, the Israeli military ordered the evacuation of parts of the city center, which is close to Gaza’s border with Israel.
